Mark & Melanie Miller

Miller Family
God is so awesome in the way He orchestrates the circumstances and experiences in our lives to fulfill His purposes.

We each sensed a call to missions in very different ways. I (Mark) had a continuing sense in my daily life that a change needed to take place. I participated in several short term mission trips and saw clearly the physical and spiritual needs in the world. God was nudging me to give up the securities of my stable job and become involved in full time mission work. I (Melanie) grew up as a missionary kid in Guatemala and saw early on the great discrepancies of the life I was born into compared to those around me. It was then that God began building in me the desire to share my faith and physical blessings with others. God has a hope and purpose for each person He created. We, along with our 3 children, are eager to give our energy to help others understand this future God has for them!

We are excited for and proud of our children who are here with us in this call. Madeline is 11 yrs old and is our creative personality who loves crafts and reading. Marya is 9 yrs old and is the animal lover in our family. Breylon, 7 yrs old brings up the tail and infuses every day with lots of energy and a mile-wide smile.

God has laid a specific burden on our hearts to work with people who live and work in the garbage dumps of this world. We both foresaw overseas mission work in our future when we were first married in 1998. Over the subsequent 10 years we prayed, searched and awaited His open doors.

Those doors swung open with amazing clarity in 2006 when we first began serving with WGM on the Texas Mexico Border for a one year term. God then brought us to Honduras to work with the AFE project, a ministry to the 2,000 people living off the sprawling city dump of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. A dream and passion long awaited began to be lived out in the daily activities of language learning, cultural adaptation, serving as work team coordinator, school nurse, listening ear, and women’s coop coordinator among countless other unexpected roles to which God’s grace brought wisdom and direction.

Currently our family is living and serving alongside the Shalom congregation in Choluteca, Honduras. Together we are reaching out to the San Jorge Community, the community that borders the municipal dump in the areas of health care, Kid’s Clubs and education. God’s command to ‘love our neighbor’, or otherwise stated…those whom God brings into our awareness and paths of life…is the motivation that keeps up focused on serving others in a holistic manner. Where there is hunger, let us offer . Where there is nakedness, let us clothe. Where there is thirst, let us share a cup of water. Where there is emptiness of heart and soul, let us share Christ to bring life abundant.
