La Esperanza

La Esperanza
Located at 5,000 feet above sea level in the mountains of southwestern Honduras, La Esperanza is the home of the Lenca Indians. Idolatry, religious traditions, alcoholism, and unemployment hamper progress in this city of cobblestone and dirt streets.

With WGM’s desire to expand its ministry to other areas of Honduras, the La Esperanza ministry was opened in 1997. Ministry began by supporting the local congregations of the area and reaching out to the youth in the community. The vision also included—and continues to include—reaching the lost in the area through planting a church, personal evangelism, and counseling ministries.

More recently, teaching ministries have been added to the La Esperanza ministry by providing Bible teachers and curriculum for three schools in the area. On a weekly basis, nearly 1000 students hear of Jesus' love for them and His plan for their lives through these educational ministries. Theological courses are offered on two levels for pastors and leaders from this region as well as near by regions.

A rehabilitation center ministers to alcoholics and drug addicts. Men come from all over the western half of Honduras. Nearly 200 men have been in the program. Plans are being made to construct a permanent facility for this proven ministry of love.
