Reason for being thankful.
Category: General
We don't often view emergency expenditures as a blessing.
I remember when we moved onto the vocational school property over two years ago that one of the electric posts was leaning and would need to be replaced. It would be a big, costly job. High voltage wires needed to be unhooked, transformers taken down, the post replaced and everything reattached. It wasn't that bad and with the list of urgent things that needed our attention, the post was forgotten. Even though I walked past the post every day, the additional fraction of an inch that it was leaning every couple of months was not noticed.
Fortunately, John McNutt showed up to give us a hand and reminded me that the post was leaning dangerously. We were able to contract electricians to replace the post on a Saturday and the school did not have to close classes. Interestingly, after the electric lines were unhooked and the transformers had been safely taken down, the first guy wire was unhooked from the post and the post snapped off at the ground.
One of the electricians commented that, "It is apparent that God is watching over the school." Even though we did not have the financial resources available, I am glad that we were able to replace the post. The investment of $1,500 kept us from having to spend much more money replacing transformers if the post had broken unexpectedly. More importantly, the high voltage lines never fell to the ground, preventing a tremendous risk to students and personnel.
We are grateful.
