Day of the Bible

Category: General

One event unique to the country of Honduras is Day of the Bible. Each year the day is set aside for churches to celebrate the Bible. Usually it involves a parade, however, with the current political situation in Honduras the parades were canceled. El Sembrador held a special service in the church.

The Bible Institute students displayed their banners that were prepared to carry in the parade. Each one proclaimed a message about the Bible.

Pastor Quiroz asked facts about various books and people in the Bible for the students to answer.

Karely, one of our Bible Institute students, gave the sermon.

Women's Group

Our ladies who live on campus get together once a month for a time of devotions and planning activities for the students on campus. The last meeting the group thought it would be fun if the Hondurans would teach the missionaries how to make something. Then the missionaries would teach the Hondurans.

The Honduran ladies decided they would demonstrate how to make empanadas. Empanadas are a small pocket of dough filled with cheese and then deep fried. Yum!!

Day of the Child

One of the special days Honduras celebrates is Day of the Child. It is a time for celebrating the lives of children. The Bible Institute honored the children of the employees of El Sembrador by holding special activities. There was singing, a puppet show, games, pinatas and gifts!

Day of the Pastor

Category: General

The Day of the Pastor is celebrated in Honduras to honor all pastors. At El Sembrador a special service was held to honor Pastor Quiroz and his wife, as well as, our upcoming pastors in the Bible Institute. The Lord has blessed El Sembrador with this special man and woman of God!

Pastor Quiroz and his wife Raquel.

God has given us a special group of young men and young ladies who are studying to become future pastors in Honduras.

Each Sunday School class had an opportunity to share something special for the celebration.

The women's Sunday School class sang a special song.

One of the joys for Sherri has been to teach the four missionary kids on campus. She has two kindergartners, a first grader and a fourth grader. The first day of school was a day touring the school grounds and visiting all the animals.

Teamwork

Category: General

Teams are always an enjoyment for the students and staff at El Sembrador. We recently had a team from Michigan and a couple of ladies from Texas. The project this year for teams has been redoing the other half of one of the boys dorms.

One of the many projects the ladies did on the team was to paint and paint and paint some more.

We were able to take the team to a nearby village, La Campana. The people in this area are part of the indigenous group of Pech. The team worked alongside our Bible Institute students and performed dramas, puppet shows and sang songs for the children and youth of the area. Our Bible students always bless us with how devoted they are in sharing the Gospel.

Team members singing and performing.

Two of the Bible Institute students, Mario and Carlos, perform a skit.

Even a rain downpour did not keep the people from coming and hearing the Word.

The evening was spent serving supper to the people as they watched an evangelistic movie. The sweet, humble people of the Pech village reminded us of our days in La Esperanza. We thank the Lord for the team's enthusiasm and hearts for serving Him!

Discipleship Group

Category: General

Each year we divide the students into discipleship groups. Sunday mornings for Sunday School and Wednesday evening they meet to learn about the Bible and how to apply it to their lives. The last Wednesday of each month instead of meeting in the classroom one of the groups are in charge of the service in the church. The group decides what they want to do for their service. Usually groups have a time of singing, dramas, a devotion and a time of prayer. It is always a blessing to see the students apply some of what they are learning in their discipleship groups into the service.

Our discipleship class

For their Wednesday night our discipleship class sang and had a devotion about carrying God's light to others.

Day of the School

Category: General

Day of the School is always a time the students look forward to each year. It is a time of celebrating. This year Escuela El Sembrador celebrated 55 years! The students were divided into four teams. For three days they competed against each other in various events. Some of the events were volleyball, basketball, wrestling, high jump, long jump, Bible memorization, drawing, dramas and obstacle course. All the teams competed hard but this year the blue team was the champions!

After the three day events we had a barbecue. All the students and staff were  served water buffalo, rice, beans, homemade salsa and tortillas.

Each team had representation for drawing the church.
